I think they should not let kids have their cell phones during school. I think that because they should not mess around with it during class. Parents wrote angry letters and e-mails, staged rallies and news conferences, and threatened to sue. They have found a cell phone that was used for sneaky and social reasons. Schools are about cheating and photos token in locker rooms, bathrooms, and in classrooms. That’s why I disagreed.
I do not think that the school should ban cell phones. I say this because cell phones are of extreme help after school. They help organize picking up times for after school activites, or if a student was just notified that he/she has to stay after school for a class, then a cell phone is very helpful. Yet I do realize that kids are using them excessively during class for social reasons, but I believe that should be ban for the following reasons: if the teacher is talking and a student is texting, it si extremely disrespectful for the student to be doing that.
I think SMS should find a solution so that we cannot have them in class, but after school, and before the bell rings in school, because we could always keep them in our locker.
I think we should keep our cell phones as long as we don’t use them in the middle of class. Like what if you need a ride home or to tell your parents your going to a friends house. If we didnt tell our parents were we would be they might get worried then blame us. Thats why we should be able to keep our cell phones.
i agree with charles that we should be able to have cell phones in school, just like charles said what if we half to call home and see if you can get a ride home with one of your friends, another reson i think we should be able to have cell phones is like one of the articals it said on september eleventh they could not reach there parents because the schools phone shut of. what would happen if the childs parents did not have the number of the school and had to touch base with them what would happen?
I agree that cell phones should not be banned this is my reason cell phones should not be banned because incase of an emergancy like walking home or something happend on the bus a cell phone can save your live one time.I looked onwhy banning them is not a good idea and like they said there has been eleven terroist attacks but that is the childs fault because just dont talk yo people you do not know so that is my opion on banning cell phones.
I think that the school should not ban cell phones. My reasons for taking this position are that after school it is often hard to get a hold of parents because of not being able to get to phones or forgetting a parents work number. Also in a crisis situation were like if the schools phones are down or the school has just burnt down it might be difficult to get a hold of parents.
I agree with you charles having a cell phone in class to notify your parents about were you are is important. But it is also impotant that we dont abuse having cell phones remember having a cellphone is a privlage not a right.
I do kind of agree to Abby. I kind of think they should not ban cell phones. I still disagree though. Some people don’t even have cell phones. It could be helpful for after school. You should keep it in your locker. You should not use it in class.
I think that the school board shouldnt ban cell phones we should just turn them off and put them in our locker and dont let anyone know your locker com. if someone does know it just give it to the principle/teacher to hold on to it. people might have a emergency walking home so they would have no way to call anyone.
i agree with charles because he is right if there is to many people using the phone to go home then go outside and call on your selphone and i agree that we should not allow them in the middle of class not even at lunch.
I agree Kyle. If there is an emergancy you have to call or notify your parents or even if you are sick and don’t feel well. Thats why the school shoud’nt baned cell phones. Also were in the 7th grade I think were a little mature to handle cell phones. So they shouln’t bane cell phones.
I agree with Zach because we should be aloud to have cell phone but you have to have it off in your back pack and if you get cuaght texting that person sgould be suspended
i also agree with zack about how kids in 7th grade are mature enough to have a cell phone, and if teachers are worried about us texting in school most kids dont because they actually want to get good grades
I do not think that schools should ban students from having cell phones. I feel this way because, I read in an article that during the Septembet 11th terrorist attack, parents couldn’t reach their children because cell phones had been banned in New York Schools. Cell phones should be allowed so parrents can reach their kids if an emergency should occur.
There are many stories of children being kidnapped, as I read in a different article, most parents only give cell phones to their children as a safety issue.Cell phones are much more of a nessecity than they were 10 years ago, many people need them and I think that students should be trusted with the responsibility of having cell phones in school.
I agree with Abby that some students do misuse cell phones and end up disrupting classes. I think that she’s right to say that SMS should definatly enforce the ‘no phones in class’ rule. Classes are only an hour long, if you have to talk to someone that badly you should have talked to them before class, or wait until class is over. However, I still believe that we should be allowed to have cell phones in school.

I do not think that that school board should ban cell phones in school. My reasons for thinking this are that for one, if a student had a sudden change of plans with his/her arangements for getting picked up they need to be able to call a parent to confer plans and transfer information. Also some people would argue that cells phones are disruptive in class, there is a very simple solution to that, if a student has their phone in class give them a warning, then if they use it again in class they will get a referal. Its that’s simple. My last reason is that if no one had a cell phone they would have to use a staffs classrooms phone or an office phone. This could lead to fights over who get the phone next and crowdedness. In conclusion I think banning cell phones is generally a bad idea and the idea of banning them should be haulted.

I agree with abbey when she says that cell phones should not be baned because she made a very good point to say that if you are going home with a friend or you missed your bus you need to get intouch with your parents ASAP so they don’t get worried. Also she said that you might run the risk of your parents getting mad at you because they aren’t able to call you to see what your plans are. So in conclusion I agree with Abbey that cell phones should not be banned in Saline Middle School.
I think that the school board should not ban cell phones in school. I believe this because students should be able to converse with their parents after and before school. For instance, if you had a busy schedule, you would need to contact your parents to make sure that you would be picked up. If there was an emergency, like on September 11, students wouldn’t just run to the office, where it would most certainly be crowded. No, they would just get their cell phones. Many schools who have allowed cell phones before and after school have had very positive results. For one, the parents are reassured that, if anything happened at school, they could easily contact their child. Some people might say that the school board should ban cell phones because of all the trouble they cause. Actually, they don’t cause a lot of trouble. Cell phone interruptions in class could be fixed by always having to store your phone off in your locker. This would also solve the problem of pictures being taken in the locker rooms because the cell phones would be in the student’s locker. Therefore, I believe that the school board should still allow cell phones in school.

I think cell phones should not be banned from Saline Middle School. I think that call phones should be allowed because after school their parents need to communicate with their children. Some times kids make plans during the school day and have to call their parents after school and tell them what their new plans are. Also parents argue that their kids should have a phone to call them in case of an emergency. For example during 9-11 kids weren’t allowed to have cell phones to call home during the major emergency. I think cell phones should be allowed in our school.
I agree with Charles. I think we should be allowed to have cell phones in school as long as they are turned off during class hours. Kids need to be able to contact parents after school hours, but do not need to use them during class.
I think that the school board should not ban cell phones in school. My reasons for taking this position are because most parents want their kids to have their cell phones so they can keep in touch with them, to make pick up plans or to tell them if there plans have changed. Another reason is if there was an emergency like on September 11th the kids couldn’t contact their parents because the public phones were already in use. The Virginia school board realized that that this was an issue so they decided to rethink there policy and let kids have cell phones in school but only use them under certain circumstances. Some people may disagree but if students us them in class the teachers can warn them but if they do it again then they should get detention or get written up. In conclusion I think that the school board should not ban cell phones from school.
I agree with Laney I think we should be aloud to have cell phones in school so that parents can keep in touch and make pick up arrangements ext. I also agree with her that if a student is using there phone in class that they should be warned first but if they us it again then they should get a referral.
I think that we SHOULD NOT ban cell phones from school. My reasens are, if you are on the first bus and you miss it its good to have your cell phone so you do not have to walk to the ofice. Also if you have to stay after school for activitys and you have to call a parent you can have your cell. Not a lot of people text during class so it would be unfair to the people that dont to have there cells to be banned.
i agree with madison, beacause if another emegrancy like 9-11 happens, most teachers would say if you need to call home go to the office. Well of course the line would be very long and i dont think that would be right.
Instead you could just pull out your cell phone in 2 seconds. but i also think that kids who text in class realy never get caught so it cant be that big of a distraction to the class if the teacher dosent notice. but students still should not text during class.
I believe that the school should not ban cell phones because something bad could happened, and 300 kids could not all call home fast. You should atleast be able to have your cellphone in your locker turned off. Also if you need to stay after school to finish your missing work and you just found out today you would need to call your parents somehow right? What if you decide that you wanted to go to your friends house but then you couldnt because you wouldnt be able to reach your family. These are the reasons I believe the school board should not ban cellphones.
I agree with Laney that they should not ban cellphones at school. What if you broke your leg or like had a stroke, you would just have to sit there because your cellphones at home so you couldnt call your parents. Also its a little unfair that the teachers can bring cellphones in the school but not the kids. Also what if your parents only pick up to your cellphone number and you missed the bus, then you would have to walk home.
I think that banning school cell phones is a really dumb idea. I think this because would if after school you need to call home or something, you would be stranded there. Also another reason is having cell phones in school isn’t that bad anyway, but there can tend to be innapropriate texting every now and then. The last reason to have cell phones in school is that you either turn them off, or just leave them in your locker, that way they won’t be as big as a problem around the school.
I also agree with Tommy, because he said basicaly what I said and some more. A good reason is the parents, they might need to stay in-touch with their kids if there’s changes in plans. I actually agreed with alot of people on this, but I just picked tommy’s because his was the longest and it stood out.
I agree with Nicki that the school board should not ban cell phones. What if an emergency happened, and everyone was calling everyone to check if they were o.k.? I also agree with Nicki that we should at least be able to keep them turned off in our lockers. Also, if an emergency does happen, parents will not be concerned as much because they know that their son/daughter can contact them if they need help.
I think the banning of cell phones would be a mistake. My first reasons is if a kid misses the bus they could just call for a ride. Second if they need to stay after school they could coordinate it easily with their friends or parents. Thirdly and lastly if something comes up like an emergency they may need to call the cops or something else like that.
I agree with Kyle that the banning of cell phones could cost lives like with the terrorist attaks like he described. If you are trapped you could call and tell the fire department or some one else ware you are. So in conclusion I believe getting rid of cell phones is a bad idea.
I think the school board SHOULD NOT ban cell phones in school. My reasons for taking this position are because students need to contact someone in case of an emergency. What if somebody got seriously injured, what would you use to get help? I think cell phones should be allowed in school, but not allowed in any classes. They should be left in lockers/backpacks and should have a safe spot so they don’t get stolen. I think it would even be okay if students carried their phones around (turned off), so it wouldn’t get stolen.
I agree with Tommy that cell phones should be allowed in school, but not to be used in any classes. Students need to contacts their parents after school, but phones should not be used during school hours.
I do not think that schools should ban cell phones. I say my opinion because kids need cell phones to contact parents when their ride isn’t here, and parents can check up on kids to make sure that they’re safe. What if some sort of intruder came into the school? Without the use of cell phones, kids wouldn’t be able to locate help because of a pointless school banning for “distractions” in class. If the teachers are so good at their own teaching, they can handle a cell phone ringing in the middle of their class without sending the entire classroom into pure chaos. Teachers should be able to manage their class enough so that they can’t be caught cheating or sending text messages.
I agree with Nicki that kids could be seriously injured or hurt, and they wouldn’t be able to call their parents because of, again, the pointless ban of use of cell phones.
I think that kids should be able to use there cell phones. The thing is that they should not have them on during school hours. I think it is ok that kids can bring there cell phone, but it should be off when you come to school maybe put it in there locker. I’m agreeing that kids should have cell phones because they could get hurt very badley, and what would they do? Thats why kids should have a cell phone.
I agree with with tommy that cell phones should not be banned. The kifs need those to contact there parents they could get in a accent and what would they do? Thats why they need cell phones with them, but they should not have them during classes.
I believe that the Saline Board members should not ban cell phone use in school. For instance if you mom needed to get to you at school and you don’t have your cell phone then how is your mom supposed to reach you. Another reason for not banning cell phone use is that what if there is a school fire, we would need our cell phones to contact our parents. In the long run I think there should be no cell phone banning, and who knows, cell phones might save lives.
I agree with ricky because what if you were in a sitution were you would have to call your parents at school, without cell phones you cant reach your parents.
I think that the school board should not ban cell phones in school. My reasons for taking this position are that for one, if there is an emergency of some sort the kids won’t be able to call their parents. Also if after school you have an arrangement to go home with a friend you would need to call home and confirm this with your parents. And for the kids who chose to use them during class they should get a warning, and if they do it again then they should get it taken away, but just for a couple of students who disobey the rules it shouldn’t affect the rest of the students. In conclusion I think it is a bad idea to ban cell phones from any school.
I agree with Nicki. If you broke your leg or something bad like that then you wouldn’t have anyway of contacting your parents. I also agree with her that it is unfair that teachers would get to bring cell phones and we wouldn’t be able to bring them.
I think that banning cell phones would be a bad decision. Yes students are disrespectfully using them during school, but they also need them. After school you are not allowed to make plans to go to a friend’s house on the school phone. My mom normally picks me up and that day she wasn’t there to take me home. So I had to walk home with Rylee and Rosie. If I’d had my cell phone then my mom wouldn’t have freaked out and called everyone asking where I was.
I geuss your cell phone privelages really depend on how you choose to use them. Banned during school hours? Yes. but all the rest? No.
I agree with Avery. Students who choose to use them should get them taken away or get a warning, but the rest of us who use them at an appropriate time shouldn’t be punished for their actions.
I think that banning cell phones is a bad decision because, only some people use cell phones when they are not allowed to and the others only use them after school at the right time. It is not fair for the people that use the cell phones at the right times because we didn’t do anything wrong with them and some people do use them in school to text and the others don’t. I think that if kids are using them in school they should get them taken away and they should take everyones away.
I agree with Halle with the fact that if you walked home with your friends you can’t call your mom or dad at the school phones so you would have to have a cell phone so your parents weren’t worried.
