I think that both sides have good reasons. However... I believe that cell phones should not be banned. They are a fantastic technology that has a good purpose The rules should be more enforced though. I admit, I have a cell phone, but I keep it in my locker if I bring it at all.

I agree with Reece because students will probably need them after school if there is an emergencey. They should not be allowed in class rooms or to be on during schools. They shoud only be allowed to use them after school.

I think that the school board should not ban cell phones in schools. My reasons for taking this position are as follows. What if someone needs to contact their parent because something happend. And sure you might say they could go to the office and call home, but what if they were walking home then they might be to far away from the school. Our what if there parents need to call them because they are going to be late because of traffic. And that is why cell phones should not be ban.

I am respinding to patricks point of view. He stated responding to emily's opinion that kids have another way to get a connection to their parents. Well i think some students may spaz out about how to reach their parent and might bump into some one dangerous trying to look for a way to contact parents. I think a cell phone shouldnt be a social thing it should be a saftey thing to make sure their parents know where they are at all times.

I think the school board shouldnt ban cell phones perminatley because the rule will get broken. I think more and more people will just get into trouble and it will ruin there records and they will get grounded alot more, because I know that people are upsessed with their cell phone. I think they should inforce a rule that their is only cell phones in the hallway but not in the classroom to interupt their thinking time. I asked someone how they feel without a cell phone and they said unsafe. Now i know we want the kids in our schools to feel safe.

I am responding to Patrick’s post. I do not totally disagree with the points he made or his opinion itself. But, I don’t think everyone should have to pay the consequences of another kids actions. Maybe the teachers or school board should come up with a bigger consequence for being caught with a cell phone in class. Banning them completely is just a little harsh I think. Patrick, did you always have this opinion or did reading the articles make you think otherwise? Usually kids with cell phones go against banning them I think.

I think that the school board SHOULD NOT ban cell phones in school. I am not saying this just because I am a kid who uses my cell phone in the classroom, I have my other reasons too. Many states or places have actually lifted bans since September 11th. Like in the article from Education World "A lot of parents want them for safety's sake." Nowadays no one knows what could happen at any second of any day. From weather, to real world threats, parents need a way to contact their children. It could also be as simple as a parent needing to call their child just to say they will be late picking them up from school. Also think about it, from the article on the ban in New York City, they have metal detectors to make sure kids don’t have their phones when they come to school. They sneak them in anyway, in sometimes the weirdest ways possible. Now, in school cell phones are banned being in class, but kids bring them to class anyway. They isn’t really a way to stop this. Kids can be sneaky. I think that cell phones SHOULD NOT be banned totally from schools.

I disagree with Morgan because even if there is a huge tragedy like the 9/11 terrorist attacks its not like the schools don’t have ways of getting hold of the parents and guardians of the school. All of the schools in America I’m sure have some sort of way of contacting people outside of the school system. Even if it is the student’s responsibility to not get the phones stolen they will be constantly thinking about ‘well what if my phone does get stolen’ or ‘I think someone stole my phone.’

I think that the schools SHOULD ban cell phone use in the schools because if there is a kid in the classroom who is texting or playing games on there phone they are obviously not paying attention to what the teacher is talking about. When the students bring there cell phones into the classroom it just creates a greater danger for the school, with kids talking to people they shouldn’t be talking to or doing things on there phone they shouldn’t be doing. Even if the schools let kid in with cell phones doesn’t mean that they can do things in the classroom with there phone. The students would be completely blowing off there academics if they leave there phone on during the school day. There is plenty of time outside of school for the phones to be on. With the use of cell phones in school there is a greater chance of conflict between people.

I agree with Lauren, because sometimes students planes change on short notice and they may need to contact there parents in an emergency. If students are only allowed to take there phones to school for after school purposes and to use in the hall ways they will no longer be a disruption to class. It is also a good idea for students to have their phones, because they could get hurt durning the day and may need to contact there parents quickly and normally parents cell numbers and in the contact list.
